Jamey's House of Music is Philadelphia's premiere small space for serious listening. It boasts an audiophile quality sound and multi-track recording system in an acoustically pristine space, allowing guests to experience world class performances with ultimate clarity in a stately old Philadelphia mansion, which is also the home of Jamey Reilly (facebook) and his wife, Suyun.
The professionally appointed venue has intimate sight lines from all 60 cushioned seats. It is a space for performers to connect with guests one on one, which inevitably results in stellar performances. Artists accustomed to performing in multi-thousand seat venues enjoy performing here because of the warmth, intamacy and wonderfully vibrant atmosphere. We are proud to be ASCAP, SESAC and BMI licensed which means that songwriters, composers and music publishers the world over are compensated for their music which is performed in our venue.
Jamey's is reminiscent of the old-world salons of Europe, where the cultural cognoscenti would gather to experience and discuss the works of the leading artists of the day. These salons were typically hosted within the homes of the artist's patrons, and provided a venue for artists to extend their craft, and make important connections with their supporters. The House of Music welcomes musicians, dancers, thespians, authors and performance artists of renown from the the world over representing the full spectrum of style and genre. As such, the Jamey's is a crucible where cultures and ideas cross pollinate to produce events of singular depth and beauty. It is in many ways a laboratory, exploring the alchemy of creative shared experience.
Jamey's House of Music is the new name for the PSALM Salon, which began unofficially in 2002 as a "pass the guitar" gathering for local musicians, and was officially launcehd in 2003 in its present form with a show every Saturday evening year round. We have been told that Jamey's has inherited the mantle of the venerable "Main Point" which was the region's go-to venue for quality music in an intimate setting. We are proud to have hosted the highest caliber performers of local, regional, national and international repute on our humble stage.
All performances are multi-track recorded for the archive and potential "live CD" release. Listen to a cut from a recent concert by Australian folk-rocker Anne McCue. Every full performance is streamed live in HD on the internet, and the latest 8 or so concerts are archived for free viewing anytime. Chef Suyun delights guests each week with carefully prepared Cantonese home-style creations. As one patron says... "I come for the food and stay for the music." BYO is welcome, and complimentary nibbles, soft drinks and tea and coffee are provided.
