Lakeside Family Centre started up in 1993 at Jurong West, operating both a family centre and a Before and After School Care (BASC) centre. Seven years later, in 2000, a similar set-up was established at Jurong East. Today, both centres provide services to children, youth and families in the key areas of counseling and financial support, while conducting other preventive and developmental programmes such as mothers’ and seniors’ support groups, family life education and marriage preparation workshops.
In 2007, a third centre located in Taman Jurong began operations. The Taman Jurong centre serves the chronic poor through our Families-In-Progress and Needy Families Programmes while TJ Haven is an initiative to reach out to the incarcerated, offenders/ex-offenders and their families. Lakeside also provides counseling support to the Multi-Service Cluster (MSC) at Toh Guan, meeting the needs of the community there in partnership with two other organizations.
Lakeside is a full member of the National Council of Social Service and approved by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. Registered as a society in 1997 and a charity in 1998, we express our Christian responsibility to society under our banner, “Changing Lives, Transforming Communities”. We focus on the needs of individuals and families in the Jurong community, serving all regardless of race, language or religion. We work in harmony with our neighbors, the community and the government. Lakeside’s current staff strength is 70, including associate staff, and we are supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.
