Avondale Grammar School is a co-educational, independent international grammar school that is registered with the New South Wales Board of Studies. With a staff of committed and highly qualified teachers, many of whom have extensive experience in teaching in international settings, Avondale has chosen to be one of the first schools to implement the new world class Australian Curriculum. This new curriculum acknowledges the importance of developing core foundational knowledge in each of the disciplines as well as focusing explicitly on the development of key 21st Century skills.
The School is committed to encouraging students to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals who are informed citizens, who demonstrate ethical integrity, relate well to others and communicate across cultures… at local, regional and global levels.
Our Early Learning Campus houses our Preschool (for students who are aged 3 and 4 years old) and our Junior Primary Students (in our Foundation, Year One and Year Two year groups). Our Primary and Middle Years Campus houses students from Year 3.
As part of its expansion plans, Avondale has recently appointed Ms Jan Hart as Principal. Ms Hart comes with extensive successful experience in leadership at one of Australia’s most highly regarded GPS boys’ schools, The Scots College which is located in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, Australia. In her most recent role, Ms Hart filled a Preschool to Year 12, research and development role at the school.
Ms Hart has a strong understanding of and commitment to international best practice in curriculum development and assessment, in personalised learning, innovative pedagogical approaches, and the development of strong parent/teacher communication. Ms Hart was heavily involved in professional development in New South Wales and while at Scots, developed a culture of high expectations and respect for achievement in all domains – academic, sporting and co-curricular.
Ms Hart’s considerable experience in all facets of independent school education from Early Learning through to Year 12 means that she is well equipped to lead Avondale through the coming stages of growth and the expansion.
Avondale strives to provide a personalised learning experience for each child. The School develops Individual Learning Programs (ILPs) to allow for appropriate differentiation of the curriculum. Tracking each student’s academic progress is a key priority and each child’s development is benchmarked against the new Australian National Standards. Students in Year 3 and 5 also complete the Australian National Literary and Numeracy Assessments (NAPLAN). Additionally the School is registered to deliver the UK based Cambridge Assessments so parents can receive comprehensive diagnostic and standardised feedback regarding their child’s learning.
Interschool sport is a key priority, with students representing their School in a range of different sports throughout the year. Specialist staff also work with the students in the school’s Language and Creative Arts programs. A significant range of out-of-hours extra-curricular activities also enrich the curriculum that is provided to the students.
