The Benefits of Garlic for Type 2 Diabetes

If you like a little garlic in every dish, you’re in luck. Multiple studies have found that the popular herb can help with balancing blood sugar levels for those who have Type 2 diabetes. It can also help with common diabetes-related issues like inflammation and LDL cholesterol levels. Garlic has also been linked to improvements in patients with high blood pressure, which can be another problem for Type 2 diabetes sufferers.

One study saw high blood pressure sufferers dropping their levels by 10 percent in a 12-week period when eating garlic. Simply adding garlic to each meal could lead to a marked improvement in health among those who have Type 2 diabetes. However, it’s still important to maintain a healthy diet, as well as exercising regularly, since diet and exercise play important roles in diabetes treatment.

Garlic is found in popular meals found throughout the world, but you don’t have to eat fatty foods to enjoy it. You can add garlic to bean- and vegetable-focused meals, if you’re a non-meat eater, or include it in soups and casseroles. Type 2 diabetes sufferers are urged to focus on non-starchy vegetables, supplemented with whole grain, nuts, and lean protein.
